Organizations offer training to equip newcomers with essential skills and knowledge needed for the role. Typically, disability organizations require no prior experience in the field for DSP positions, and will provide any initial and ongoing training needed to make your introduction to the role seamless and ensure you are well-prepared to support individuals with I/DD.

These roles often allow for part-time hours, making it easier to balance work with classes, family commitments, or other responsibilities. There are also often opportunities for daytime employment, working with individuals in sheltered workshop settings, non-vocational day programs, or in-home supports.
